We have had a busy few weeks since I last posted on our blog. In the past few weeks we have learned the letters: O, M, X. We have also completed our first math chapter which was classifying objects. We had a blast celebrating Grandparents Day by inviting our grandparents into our classroom. It was so much fun to see the students leading their grandparents around on our letter scavenger hunt and our "Roll a Grandparent" dice game. This week we will be learning letter A and letter D. In math, we began our chapter on numbers 0-10. Students will be practicing counting and then writing the numbers as well. This chapter is always very challenging for students in regards to the handwriting aspect....it will take some time to master this! We have begun reading centers and math centers this week and the class seems to be loving the active learning environment!
We have a very exciting week ahead. Please remember to send your child's library book back to school at the latest on Wednesday of each week. This is the only time we are able to schedule check out time as a class and if your child hasn't returned their book then they can't check a new book out. Thursday is Constitution Day and we will be creating our very own "We the Kids..." class constitution. Please ask your child what they learn about the constitution and why it is so important in our history. Then on Friday, we will be attending our "first" Homecoming parade! The students always love to see all of the different floats and activities you can be involved in the years to come...not to mention the yummy candy! Be on the lookout for details to come home tomorrow regarding our transportation plan and parade details.
As a school, we have implemented a school-wide positive behavior system. Students have been earning tickets if they are demonstrating BRAVES behavior such as walking quietly in the hallway, quietly and quickly using the bathroom, or being respectful to staff and peers. As a class we are trying to earn our very first BRAVES brownie party. For every 10 tickets the class earns, we get a brownie square on our class pan of brownies. We already have 5 out of the 12 filled up!! We have made great progress at being aware of BRAVES behavior and displaying it for other staff and students to see. :) The class loves earning tickets towards the brownie party and I do too! We are looking forward to another great week in Miss McCandless' Kindergarten class!
